NIBAS Climbing Courses

Is your child excited about climbing? Is your child between 7-16 years old? Do you want your child to become a passionate, experienced and safe indoor climber? Then let us teach them through our nationally recognised bouldering programme: NICAS Bouldering!

The National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme for Bouldering (NICAS Bouldering or NIBAS) is a UK-wide scheme which provides structure and motivates new climbers to develop their skills whilst having their achievements recognised.

During school term, we will be running NICAS Bouldering sessions for kids aged 7 and above, limiting our sessions to only 6 kids per coach to maintain our high levels of coaching. Each session will last 1h and 15 minutes. The availability each term is very restricted due to high demand, so all spaces are bookable online on a first-come first-served basis.

Your child will learn:

• to develop climbing movement skills and improve levels of ability
• to develop risk assessment and risk management skills in the sport
• to work as a team, communicate with, and trust other climbers
• to provide a structure for development, motivation and improved performance
• to provide a record of personal achievement.

This Spring term we will be running NIBAS Level 1 and Level 2:‍

• Level 1 (New Boulderer): Participants will learn the skills involved in bouldering including basic movement skills, how to use a bouldering wall safely, and the ability to warm-up and down for injury prevention. From 7-16 years old.
• Level 2 (Foundation Boulderer): Participants will further their technical development in association with understanding tactics – how to go about working out the moves, climbing a problem, and managing the risks. All children must have completed NIBAS Level 1 (at City Bouldering or other accredited centre) before signing to our Level 2. We have 2 groups: ages 7-11 and ages 12+.

At all times our coaches are there to help them develop their agility, balance, coordination and belief in themselves through fun climbing sessions. Even if your child is an experienced climber they will learn and improve with our NICAS Bouldering coaches.

Upon successful completion of this program students will receive their full NIBAS log books and be awarded their NIBAS certificate and pass.

The term fee covers all costs, equipment hire, entrance and NIBAS registration, logbooks and assessments.
